Do Known Buys Bail In £400k for $40B Fraud
Do Kwon, the dashing founder of Terra Luna, caught in a legal whirlwind in Montenegro for allegedly playin' with forged documents. But here's where it gets interesting, pardner :
Kwon rode into town and bought himself and his CFO, Hon Chand Jun, a one-way ticket outta jail using their own hard-earned assets.
Local whispers say they ponied up €400,000 (that's about $435,000) each to secure their freedom. Talk about puttin' your money where your mouth is!
Now, here's where the dust settles.
The Terra Luna maestro and his companion managed to convince the court that they won't be hightailin' it outta town.
They promised to stay put, answer every court summon, and be easily reached at the address provided by their slick defense attorney.
But the prosecutors, well, they weren't too pleased about it.
They argued against bail, fearing Kwon might just ride off into the sunset and leave Montenegro in the dust.
The big question on everyone's mind: Will the Terra Luna founder make a run for it again?
Despite the objections, the judge ruled in favor of the daring duo, slappin' 'em with house arrest to keep 'em on a tight leash.
The judge believes that the hefty bail amount serves as a deterrent, discouraging any thoughts of flight.
Additionally, the authenticity of travel documents and identity cards will undergo verification, potentially prolonging the duration of these proceedings. The suspense continues!
Can't have 'em gallivantin' across state lines, now can we?
The court aims to ensure they don't skip town and comply with the ordered monitoring measures
Meanwhile, keep an eye out for Terra Luna co-founder Daniel Shin, who is scheduled for his first court hearing in South Korea on May 26.
